Cocalico Youth Soccer Club Programs

Cocalico Youth Soccer Club (CYSC) is a comprehensive program for U6 through U19 designed to place the focus on teaching our youngest players the skills needed to truly enjoy the game of soccer.  The U6 and U8 programs utilize a 4v4 format and are based on having fun and learning skills.  Once players graduate into our Recreational (Rec) and Select programs they will progress into the 7v7, 9v9, and eventually 11v11 style of play, all the while working on their skills, footwork and knowledge of the game.  Our soccer club is a non-profit organization that is made up of members of the community that volunteer their time in a variety of ways.  We encourage parents to get involved at every level.

In 2016 US Soccer changed how they determine the age groups for players. Players are now grouped by birth year based on the age chart below.

U6 Program

Cocalico Youth Soccer Club's U6 Program provides players ages 4 and 5 the opportunity to have fun and learn soccer skills in a co-ed environment.  Group training will teach the basics of soccer in a fun and encouraging setting.  Parents are encouraged to participate as "coaches" on the small teams that share the weekly plan with the players.  The program will meet on Saturdays and will spend the first half of the session learning new skills while the second have of the session will be a small sided 4v4 instructional game.  When attending sessions please wear the club uniform, shin guards, cleats (sneakers are allowed), and bring a water bottle and a size #3 soccer ball.  Extra layers under the uniform are suggested for warmth during cooler months.

U8 Program

Cocalico Youth Soccer Club’s U8 Program provides players aged 6 and 7 the opportunity to develop their skills in a progressive program against other CYSC U8 teams.  This program teaches the fundamentals of soccer the players will need as they progress through the Club's age groups.  Players will play 4v4 small-sided games to demonstrate their newly developed skills.  At this age, the focus is on having fun and developing fundamental ball skills, not on the competitive aspects of the game.  Games are held on Saturday mornings at the Cocalico High School soccer fields.  Two one-hour practices are held during the week on days selected by the volunteer parent coach (a great way to select your child’s practice night is to become a volunteer coach – training and materials are provided).  Please make sure your child brings a size 3 soccer ball, cleats (sneakers OK but not preferred), shin guards, and water to all games and practices.  Uniforms are purchased separate from the registration fee.

Recreational Program U10-U19

Cocalico Youth Soccer Club's Recreational (Rec) Program provides players aged 8 to 18 (U10 to U19) the opportunity to further develop their skills in a progressive program and to participate in league play within Lancaster County.  This program builds on the fundamentals and teaches players about sportsmanship and teamwork.  There are four age groups in the Rec Program – U10 (ages 8 and 9), U12 (ages 10 and 11), U15 (ages 12, 13, and 14) and U19 (ages 15, 16, 17, and 18).  Teams are formed and will play against other same age group recreational teams within Lancaster County.  You will travel to other opposing club's fields for half of the games.  Individual player development remains the focus at all levels of this program.  Instruction also includes tactics and team concepts.  Coaches provide the opportunity for players to play and learn a variety of positions.  The composition of teams may be revised after the fall season, depending on the number of players who sign up, the ability of those players and the number of volunteer parent coaches.  The focus of the Rec Program remains on player development and team building.  League games are held on Saturday's and Sunday's at various venues in Lancaster County.  Two 90-minute weeknight practices are held on the days selected by the volunteer parent coach (a great way to select your child’s practice nights is to become a volunteer coach – training and materials are provided).  The program is open to all players without residency restrictions.  Players will need a size 4 (U10/U12) or size 5 (U15/U19) soccer ball, cleats, shin guards, and water.  Uniforms will be purchased separate from the registration fee.

Select Program U9-U19

Cocalico Youth Soccer Club's Select Program is the highest level of play for players aged 8 to 18 (U9 to U19) and provides the opportunity to further develop their skills in a progressive program and to participate in league play within Lancaster County.  This program continues to build on the fundamentals and also teaches advanced skills, sportsmanship and teamwork.  You will travel to other opposing club's fields for half of the games.  League games are held on Saturday's and Sunday's at various venues in Lancaster County.  Some age groups might have teams from Berks, York or Lebanon County. Two 90 minute weeknight practices are held on the days selected by the volunteer parent coach (a great way to select your child’s practice nights is to become a volunteer coach – training and materials are provided).  The program is open to all players without residency restrictions.   Teams participating in the Select Program typically play 8 games a season against other Select teams.  In addition, teams can participate in playoffs after the fall season and tournaments during the fall and/or spring seasons.  The club is not responsible for any registration or fees associated with tournaments or indoor play.  Each team (coach and parents) is independently financially responsible for anything outside of League games, playoffs or festivals.  Players participate in open tryouts each spring (for the fall and following spring season) and are assigned to teams based on skill level.  Tryouts will be held for all new and returning players.  Uniforms will be purchased separate from the registration fee.  Players will need a size 4 (U9 to U12) or size 5 (U13 and up) soccer ball, cleats, shin guards, and water.  Uniforms will be purchased separate from the registration fee.
